Plan with your exact boards, pack sizes and fitting rules
If a planner only offers a fixed list of board sizes, you end up planning for boards you are not buying. The length and width of the boards decide the row widths, the offcuts and the pack count, so they need to match the box in your trolley.
Floor Optimizer takes the numbers straight off the box, and lets you set the rules your installation instructions ask for.

What is Floor Optimizer?
Floor Optimizer is an online flooring layout planner for DIYers and flooring fitters. You draw your room or whole floor plan to your measurements, enter the boards you plan to buy and pick a laying pattern, and it places every board in your actual room shape. From that layout it works out the waste, the exact packs to buy and a board-by-board cut list, so the floor is planned before anything is bought or cut. It runs in the browser on a computer, tablet or phone.

Frequently asked questions
- Can I enter my own board size?
- Yes. Any length, width and thickness, plus the number of boards per pack. Presets cover common formats, but nothing limits you to them.
- What is minimum joint offset?
- The shortest allowed distance between end joints in neighbouring rows, often 200 to 300 mm for laminate. It is in your installation instructions, and the planner applies it across the whole floor, warning you about any joint it cannot fix.
- What is kerf and should I set it?
- Kerf is the width of material your saw blade removes. Setting it means pieces planned from the same board still fit after cutting. A typical blade is 2 to 3 mm.
- Can I plan with mixed board lengths?
- Each layout uses one board size. To compare two products, change the size and the floor re-lays, or duplicate the project and keep one version per product.
